Discover how to create signature bathrooms on a budget
Rather than appraise just how bad your bathroom is; consider its good points. In most likelihood, you will not find too much wrong. Instead, focus on the unappealing fixtures and fittings; those areas that have been affected by wear and tear. It is here that you can make significant improvements at a fraction of the cost than a complete overhaul would entail. When updating a bathroom suite, simply updating your faucets on the basin, tub and shower can make a world of difference. There are many great new fittings to buy available to you and, with the money you are saving through not having a whole new suite, you might just be able to push the boat out a little more.
For those that do not wish to splash the cash quite so extravagantly however; some time spent browsing through reclamation and salvage yards is likely to reap huge dividends. Whether you are after a retro feel, something from the Art Deco period, or even modern chrome fittings, it is all likely to be on offer in such places. And remember to barter to get the best possible price. Another excellent way to get a new look finish, is by simply replacing the tub panel. Whilst plastic is the most affordable; a really fantastic look can be achieved for not a lot more money. Back at the reclamation yard, look for materials such as copper or even a
n old piece of iron railing that can be worked to fit.
A word of note here though; do ensure the new panel allows for easy access to the plumbing beneath the pipe. Another useful tip to be aware of is the impact mirrors can have on bathrooms. If however you do not have the space for a focal mirror; consider buying several reasonable sized ones and putting up around the space. Adding space and light, as well as practicality, these really can transform your bathroom for not a great deal of expenditure. The tiling in bathrooms can also be the cause for many problems. Other than ensuring these are given a thorough clean can be all it takes. For areas needing a little more attention however, simply replace a few tiles with bright accent colored tiles to lift the whole look, or create a feature backsplash behind the basin.
The final piece in your refurbishment jigsaw is accessories. Just as you would compliment furnishings in the lounge with accent cushions, throws and the like, for bathrooms; mats, toweling and glass and porcelain ware can have an immense effect. Whatever the financial constraints you are working under; applying a little imagination should see you get the look you are after and; it will be a whole lot more fun.
